The recipient of the 2021 David G. H. Waters Hymn Sing Memorial Award is Camryn Dewar. It is clear that music has always played a central role in Camryn’s life, from singing in the Manitoba Opera Children’s Chorus, to performing in the Winnipeg and Rockwood music festivals, to participating in music camps, to singing in talent shows. Camryn recently completed her third year in vocal performance at the University of Manitoba, and as a proud member of the Métis Nation, hopes to someday tell the stories of Métis women through opera and theatre.
She brings a wealth of singing experiences as both a soloist and member of several ensembles including the U of M Musical Theatre program, the U of M Singers and Women’s Chorus, and the U of M Opera ensemble. In addition to her extensive singing resume, Camryn also plays piano, guitar, and saxophone. She takes advantage of every opportunity to learn, grow, and hone her skills in music. She is commended for her focus, work-ethic, and passion.
Congratulations, Camryn!
