The 2021 Bert Kroeker Scholarship has been awarded to Johanna Klassen. Johanna is entering her fourth year as a voice major at Canadian Mennonite University, pursuing a music degree in choral education. As a singer, Johanna has won the Verna Mae Janzen Music Competition in 2021 and the NATS Manitoba Chapter Voice Competition in 2020, and was the runner-up to the Winnipeg Music Festival Tudor Bowl in 2021. She has been a member and soloist in the CMU Singers and Women’s Chorus, also acting as the assistant director of these choirs, under the tutelage of Dr. Janet Brenneman.
Johanna has extensive leadership experience, having led music and worked with children at Camps with Meaning, and looks forward to mentoring other students as the leader of CMU’s Music Student Association. Johanna is eager to participate in other ensembles at CMU, including Opera Workshop and playing the oboe in Concert Band. She sets high standards for herself as she strives to deepen her understanding of choral music as she grows as a musician, a mentor, and a leader in the Manitoba choral community.
Congratulations, Johanna!
